Sotogrande’s 47th International Polo Tournament comes to thrilling conclusion

We reported several months ago here at Property Sotogrande that many residents of the sought-after San Roque residential development were looking forward to the commencement of one of the highlights of the locality’s sporting events calendar: the latest running of the International Polo Tournament at Santa Maria Polo Club.

Well, on Saturday 1^st September, the 35-evening extravaganza finally came to an end to the cheers of La Indiana Polo Team, which emerged victorious in the Maserati Gold Cup Final by 13 to 8 over Lechuza Caracas.

A fittingly enthralling match to end this year’s festivities

In fact, world number two Pieres almost completely dominated the match, powering his team to glory over the Venezuelan Lechuza set owned by the well-known businessman Víctor Vargas, while also claiming the best player and highest goal scorer accolades. Azucar was awarded the honour of best pony.

Pieres graciously reflected after the game: “This final was our best game to date. Our opponents were really tough to beat: they played really well and had won the Silver Cup a couple of weeks ago. However, we found additional strength to play an amazing fourth chukka and were able to maintain our advantage till the end.

“I am extremely happy with this trophy, especially for the team, who have worked really hard for it.”
